WLARC is run for women by women. Historically the club was left by Amy Gentry in perpetuity to be used to promote women-only rowing at a time in the 1920s when women were overlooked in the sport. We have the advantage of owning our own land, boathouse and equipment.
We are a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation), 100% self-managed by a small committee elected by members. Our committee is accountable to all of the club members and to our CIO trustees to uphold the constitution and ethos of the club. We encourage every club member to be involved in the management of club affairs and they are given every opportunity to attend training courses if needed. We are funded by membership fees, fund raising and donations.
We have a strong affiliation to British Rowing and make sure we adhere to their regulations regarding safety, welfare, the protection of children and vulnerable adults, insurances and management.
